56,400 wildlife and birds rescued, treated and released (as of December 2023)
Volunteers are first responders and a main source of information on wildlife crime. They work with Forest Department field staff and the Wildlife Crime Control Unit to rescue, treat and release wild animals and birds.
How a report becomes a rescue: a volunteer or citizen spots an injured animal or a threat; the local BBCF team verifies and responds; Forest Department staff are alerted and join; the animal is rescued, treated and released, or offenders are arrested.
